New law incubator on Roeterseiland campus UvA


On Tuesday 26 February, Mayor Femke Halsema opened the Amsterdam Law Hub. Here students and staff work together with social partners and legal entrepreneurs on legal services and innovation. The Start-up Incubator of the Amsterdam Law Hub is part of the Amsterdam Venture Studios sponsored by IXA. The IXA valorisation fund has awarded 75,000 euros to the legal faculty for the start-up program in the new Law Hub. Read more.

 
Industry Alliance Office triggers Rodin Therapeutics to launch Clinical Studies in the Netherlands

Amsterdam Neuroscience of Amsterdam UMC and Rodin Therapeutics announced the launch of two clinical studies in the Netherlands. The first study will assess the quality of a new radioactive tracer for Positron Emission Tomography that can measure brain connectivity in living humans. The outcome of that imaging study should provide insights on how Rodin’s second study, an clinical intervention phase 1b trial, should be implemented. This collaboration was pioneered by Arjen Brussaard and Pieter van Bokhoven of the Industry Alliance Office. Read more.

 
VU researcher receives € 50,000 for developing friendship course for lonely elderly people


With the prize, Tamara Bouwman (VU), in collaboration with client representative Liesbeth Gaasbeek of the Gouden Dagen, will further develop the online friendship course. Ultimately, they hope to be able to soon offer the course to elderly people who are in social isolation. The Online Friendship Course is a practical course that teaches elderly people, among other things, how to contact their social network and become socially active. Read more.

 
Job application? The robot will join the interview
Together with LTP Business Psychologists, VU is investigating whether artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to assess the personality of applicants based on the behavior and emotions they show in the interview. Reinout de Vries (VU) has been interviewed by De Telegraaf on this topic. Read more.

Breakfast workshop: The next step in valorisation (21 March)



Generating ideas is not too difficult. To make your idea more concrete is usually more complicated. Which steps are to be taken? In this interactive workshop we show different models to develop your idea into a concrete business plan: What are the benefits? Which problem will you solve for whom? And how do you organise your valorisation activities?

Venturing with Equalture (21 March)
'Venturing with' is a monthly talk show where entrepreneurs share their stories about setting up their own business.
On the 21st of March, Charlotte Melkert shares her story about Equalture. Equalture helps you to select the best candidate for the job by providing you with an accurate job successfulness prediction, based on both experience and potential. Recruiters can select the perfect candidates with this tool without bias as 'name', 'gender' or 'age'. Ahti Connect - Behavioral change: How to reduce social-economic health differences?" (4 April)

This is a two-monthly network event that brings scientists, healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs and healthcare policy makers together. You are welcome to share your expertise on April 4 to ask questions and to start a discussion about how we can all promote behavioral change to stimulate a healthier life in an effective way. Breakfast workshop media (9 April)

Masterclass mentoring startups (17 April and 3 July)

This masterclass of 2 half-days on Wednesdays 17 April and 3 July is targeted at mentors or coaches of startups. The goal of this masterclass is to help new and experienced startup mentors or coaches to develop their mentoring and coaching skills. We specifically focus on startup mentoring and coaching in the context of entrepreneurship programs such as incubators and accelerators.

Art meets science at Hybrid Forms Lab

Artistic and scientific research combined into an exciting artwork at new VU-based ArtScience laboratory Hybrid Forms Lab. GAMeC, the prestigious Italian art museum, acquires artwork from artists Evelina Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand; both artists are based at the VU physics & astronomy department Hybrid Forms laboratory, part of the Demonstrator Lab. Blended Learning pilots for entrepreneurship education
Within the IXAnext valorisation program, a multi-year project consisting of various Blended Learning pilots has been carried out in entrepreneurship education programs in Amsterdam. In the videos which have been made of the pilots teachers reflect on their redesigned Blended Learning courses while students explain how they experienced this novel educational method. In the Entrepreneurship Blended Learning Pilot Community (EBLPC), visitors can peruse all assignments where participating teachers reflect on analysing, (re)designing, developing, executing and evaluating their course. Inspire your students with Amsterdam entrepreneurship cases

Tuesday 23 April two new entrepreneurship teaching cases will be launched: The Next Web and Radically Open. By involving examples about inspiring Amsterdam entrepreneurs in education, students get inspiring examples from their immediate environment. The cases can be used at any level, but are especially suitable for late Bachelor and Master level entrepreneurship courses at universities. Earlier teaching cases are: Tony Chocolonely, Optics11, SRXP en Metrica Sports. Read more.
 
IXA next Networking event on March 5

“Grab a boat into your future” with this title IXA, students entrepreneurship association LEAD and Westpoort association, invited students to a network boat tour. Aim of the event was to connect students to entrepreneurs, active in the Amsterdam harbor area Westpoort.

NWA Idea Generator
Researchers from the entire knowledge chain are called upon to submit research proposals for small projects with a high-risk-high-gain focus and with a potential for societal impact. This is a low-threshold instrument with a relatively simple application form for € 50,000 subsidy for projects with a duration of 1 year. Anyone with a (temporary) appointment at a university or college can apply. Financing may be used for research material but also on personnel - for example, to work for a year at a company or social organization. Read more.
