Constantijn van Oranje has given the start signal Amsterdam Venture Studios |
Constantijn van Oranje has given the start signal for Amsterdam Venture Studios. During the festive opening ceremony, the five Venture Studios at the Amsterdam Science Park (UvA), the VU Campus, the Amsterdam Health & Technology Center (AMC), the City Centre Campus UvA (Humanities Lab) and Amstel Campus (HvA) were opened simultaneously. From now on, students and researchers from the Amsterdam knowledge institutes can benefit from additional support when starting their own business and increasing the chances of success of their startups.
Amsterdam Venture Studios offer more than just a working space. Users can follow a joint program to increase the chances of success of their knowledge-based and (high) tech startups. Training and mentoring and access to the networks of knowledge institutes, investors and companies helps them to transform ideas into successful new innovative businesses.

Demonstrator Lab |
Demonstrator Lab was officially opened at VU Campus by Karen Maex, Rector Magnificus University of Amsterdam and Marjolein Jansen, Vice-President of the VU Executive Board.
Demonstrator Lab is a facility for students and researchers from all Amsterdam knowledge institutes where bright ideas can be transformed into tangible customer added value. It provides space and support to build the equipment, team, connections, and business tools that is needed to understand whether an idea is feasible. The first Demonstrator Lab in Amsterdam is located at the VU Campus in corridor P2 of the W&N building, close to the Venture Studios where more mature companies are solidifying their customer proposition. Amsterdam Venture Studios and Demonstrator Labs are part of the IXAnext valorisation program. In this program IXA gives a strong impulse to entrepreneurship, innovation and valorisation in collaboration with the City of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam knowledge institutes.

Funding for UvA spin-off company Macrobian Biotech BV |
The UvA, UvA Ventures Holding BV and IXA are pooling their resources to fund spin-off company Macrobian Biotech BV, a single asset biotech company that will further develop its lead compound: MB-101 for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. The company’s underlying technology is based on pivotal findings of Dr. Lars van der Heide and Prof. Marten Smidt at the Swammerdam Institute for Life Science (SILS UvA), also the founders of Macrobian Biotech. From Meten to Weten project presents topsportdata tool IRIS |
Digitalization also takes place in top-level sports: Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) initiated an ambitious project aimed at improving the performance of individual top athletes by analyzing training, nutrition and recovery data. The project "Van Meten naar Weten" (from measuring to knowing) is a consortium of sports federations, science and business. Read more.

Importance of intellectual property generated by biomedical research at universities and academic hospitals |
IXA was asked by the Journal of Clinical and Translational Research to contribute to an editorial paper on “The importance of intellectual property generated by biomedical research at universities and academic hospitals”. It provides insight in why filing a patent application may be necessary for an invention to be commercially developed, the patenting procedure itself, and other relevant issues as inventorship, the role of the knowledge transfer office, and the implications of IP and spin-off companies for researchers. University of Applied Sciences launches Digital Society School |
The start signal was given to the Digital Society School (DSS), an innovative education model at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA). In the coming years approximately 12,000 students will learn how digital technology can be better integrated into different layers of of society. DSS participants will mainly learn how (digital) technology can have a positive impact on society. Read more. |

The breakfast workshops are open to all scientists from AMC, HvA, UvA, VU, VUmc, NWO Institutes and KNAW. Participation is free of charge and breakfast will be served. From valorisation grants to collaborating with companies. In this workshop we provide an overview of the financing possibilities in the different stages of the valorisation process. We are going to discuss the various types of valorisation grants and funds. The utilisation paragraph will also be discussed. And we will cover other forms of financing, like crowdfunding and collaborating with a company. What is a company looking for and what are important criteria for them to collaborate? Valorisation implies contacting external parties in search for cooperation or exchanging knowledge.
