With the much-anticipated arrival of Spring, The Hague turns its attention to human rights and human dignity during the major Movies that Matter Festival. Most of the films are suitable for an English-speaking audience. You can also celebrate cultural diversity during the free Diversity Rocks festival and try your hand at volunteer work during NLdoet. And for those of you who went to the polls yesterday: Thank you for voting!

It's time again for the annual Movies that Matter Festival from 20 to 28 March in Filmhuis Den Haag and Theater aan het Spui. The successor to the Amnesty International Film Festival, the film and debate festival focuses on human rights and human dignity.

Diversity Rocks Festival

Would you like to try your hand at working as a volunteer for a day? Sign up for a chore during NLdoet on 20 and 21 March and see how worthwhile volunteer work can be. There is plenty of work to be done!

The multidisciplinary anti-discrimination ‘Diversity Rocks: 2103 Festival’ takes place in the Humanity House on 21 March. A celebration of cultural diversity, but also an examination of outdated social structures.

Touching play ‘Beyond Words’

Dick Raaijmakers at Dag in de Branding

American actor Bill Bowers will return to The Hague with his poignant 1-man show ‘Beyond Words’ in Het Paradijs on 27 March. Taking the audience on a funny and thought-provoking journey of sound and silence.

Treat yourself to the surprising sounds of new music during the Dag in de Branding Festival on 28 March. Unorthodox piano work by composer Dick Raaijmakers will play a pivotal role in this edition.

‘Images that Matter’ exhibition

The Hague’s Zeeheldenkwartier will get a new high-quality outdoor market with the first edition of the Flagship Market on 29 March.

The 'Images that Matter' exhibition organised by the Movies that Matter Festival can be seen in The Hague City Hall until 26 March. ‘Refugee Republic’ and ‘The Green House’ look at the plight of refugees waiting for help.

Nearly a tie for D66 and VVD

The most votes cast by residents of The Hague during the provincial council elections in the Province of Zuid-Holland on 18 March went to D66: 24,877. That is 18.3% of the votes. The VVD received 24,849 votes or 18.2%.

The Hague partners Huawei for Smart City services

The Chinese multinational networking and telecommunications equipment and services company Huawei and the Municipality of The Hague have signed an agreement on developing Smart City services.

Global Conference on CyberSpace

The Global Conference on CyberSpace (GCCS) will take place in The Hague’s World Forum on 16 and 17 April. During this international conference government ministers, companies, scientists and social organisations from all over the world will gather together to make agreements about a free, open and safe internet.

Brooding season begins 15 March 2015

Brooding season began on 15 March 2015. To ensure that the nesting birds will not be disturbed, the Municipality of The Hague will not cut back or cut down any trees or shrubs between 15 March and 15 July 2015.

Part of Fahrenheitstraat open again to traffic

The entire shopping area on the Fahrenheitstraat is getting a makeover. The portion between the Laan van Meerdervoort and the Thomsonlaan reopened to traffic on 12 March.

First neighbourhood compost point in Mariahoeve

The Hague’s first neighbourhood compost centre was opened on 4 March in Wijkpark de Horst in Mariahoeve.

Makeover for Scheveningen beach

The beach resort of Scheveningen will get a major makeover. Under the project, the municipality will invest € 20 million in the outdoor space to make it more attractive for residents and visitors alike.
