HKU curates Research Pavilion at Venice Biennale
|
Henk Slager of HKU University of the Arts Utrecht and Jan Kaila of University of the Arts Helsinki are this year’s curators of the second Research Pavilion at 57th Venice Biennale. For this edition, entitled The Utopia of Access, the project collaborates with the Norwegian Artistic Research Programme, Konstex Sweden, University of the Arts Zurich and Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

HKU Prof. Jan IJzermans contributes to Network Applied Design Research
|
Together with Stephan Wensveen (TU Eindhoven) and Daan Andriessen (HU), Jan IJzermans gave an introduction into Design Research at the first seminar organised by the Network Applied Design Research (NADR). Jan focused on generative design research in which designers are co-actors: actively involved in all relevant parts of the research. NADR collects and fosters best practices of practice-based and design related research. At the Dutch Design Week 2017 in Eindhoven the network will organise a Work in Progress exhibition.

Return of the Muses nominated by Order van Organisatie Adviseurs

Return of the Muses by HKU Prof. Bart van Rosmalen is nominated for book of the year 2016 by the Dutch International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (Orde van Organisatie Adviseurs). On 16 May the Order will announce the winner at its spring conference.

PhD Defense Jeremiah Day at VU
|
On 9 June 2017 Jeremiah Day will defend his PhD thesis A Kind of Imagination that has Nothing to Do with Fiction: Art in Public Life, supervised by Henk Slager of HKU and Wouter Davidts, at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam (location: Auditorium, 9.45). His PhD research was funded by of one of the four grants that were awarded by NWO/Mondriaanfonds for the purpose of doing a PhD in the Arts.

The ELIA 'Florence Principles' position paper on the doctorate in the arts is now available online and in print. HKU University of the Arts has endorsed this paper as a supportive member of ELIA.

HKU sets up VR Academy
|
HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, Hilversum Media Campus, NHTV and MediaMonks have joined forces to create a new VR Academy. The Academy will provide in a growing demand for professionalisation from the industries in the field of Virtual Reality, also internationally. VR Academy offers several state-of-the-art training programmes focussed on different audiences.

At the ELIA Academy Exploring Elasticity in Teaching and Learning in the Arts (5-7 July), HKU Prof. Bart van Rosmalen introduces the concept of three voices that can help professionals in higher arts education in their work in the context of permanent change. Making is the central word here that comes back in different qualities.

JamToday+ network lanched
|
Over the last 3 years, the JamToday network has developed methods and tools to run game jams for applied games. These experiences wil be continued in 2017 and 2018 on ‘The Future of Food’ and the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage. The JamToday network invites interest from different organisations on how best to continue the work of the network and offer innovative approaches for crossover innovation.
