Thailand Grand Festival
The Royal Thai Embassy and the Thai community in the Netherlands will organise the Thailand Grand Festival 2015 on 11 and 12 July on the Spuiplein. The event will feature Thai culture and traditions in various forms and will be a showcase of the world-renowned Thai culinary arts.

The Day of the Rose, similar to an English country fair, will be held on 12 July in the rose garden in Westbroekpark. Peruse all the different species of roses, including this year’s ‘Golden Rose of The Hague’, and take part in the tours and demonstrations.

The Mets Tennis Club in Scheveningen will set the stage for The Hague Open (formerly the Siemens Open) from 20 to 26 July. Up and coming Dutch tennis player from The Hague, Robin Haase, is the one to watch during this year’s edition.

Milan Summer Festival

|
The largest outdoor Hindustani festival in Europe will take place on the fields of Zuiderpark from 24 to 26 July. The Milan Summer Festival highlights the culture and language of immigrants originating from India and Pakistan and Hindustani from Suriname.

The free Plein Open pop music festival will celebrate its 20th edition on 25 July with a line-up of underground and alternative rock bands. A continuous programme of non-stop music alternating between 2 back-to-back stages on the Spuiplein and Turfmarkt.

Major facelift planned for Noordeinde |

The Noordeinde shopping area will get a major facelift. The Municipality of The Hague will invest € 2.2 million to strengthen the area’s character and boost economic activity. |

App for The Hague Beaches |

Visitors to The Hague’s beaches and people doing water sports can use ‘The Hague Beaches’ app on their smartphones as of 9 July. The app provides information about safety on the beach and at sea. |

Registration procedures for international students |

|
Foreign students who will be staying in The Hague for longer than 4 months are required to register with the municipality. The municipality, together with a number of schools of higher education, is organising central registration days on 25 August and 8 and 17 September. |

A number of acceptgiro payment slips to extend parking permits as of 1 July 2015 were not sent out on time. |

Municipality tackles traffic bottlenecks |

The Municipality of The Hague will appropriate € 15 million to tackle traffic problems along the Noordwestelijke Hoofdroute, the nearly 6-kilometre route between Kijkduin and the Hubertusviaduct. A preliminary design was presented at the end of June. |

During different meetings in the neighbourhoods Mayor Jozias van Aartsen and Chief of Police Paul van Musscher last weekend thanked young people, community leaders and other role models for their efforts in the Schilderswijk and Transvaa during the riots. |

Hofbad swimming pool closed for maintenance |

It will not be possible to swim in the Hofbad swimming pool in The Hague from 11 July to 23 August. The municipal pool will be closed for 6 weeks while part of the entrance, floor and halls are replaced. |

Opening bike parking Anna van Buerenstraat |

The bicycle lock-up facility on the Anna van Buerenstraat opened to the public on 1 July. The new facility is a welcome addition to the area around The Hague’s Central Station with space to park 1,100 bicycles in a covered and guarded area. |

Start-up HackerOne opens office in The Hague |

|
The Dutch-American start-up HackerOne has opened an office on the campus of The Hague Security Delta (HSD), the national innovation centre for security in The Hague. The start-up also received € 25 million in financing. |

Historic slavery walking route in The Hague |
|
|
The Historical Museum of The Hague has published a new walking map called ‘The Hague and Slavery’. Many people are unaware but starting in the 17th century The Hague played a central role in the establishment, preservation and the eventual abolition of slavery in 1863. |
