Two post doctoral researchers at HKU
|
HKU proudly presents its two newly appointed post doctoral researchers: Arja Veerman and Falk Hübner. February 2019, they started their research position in the field of 'making processes': processes of artistic creation and creative design. Questions they address involve: How do you research these making processes? What does this type of research deliver and how do the findings and results reinforce education? These postdoc positions are supported by Regieorgaan SIA.

Pilot Pre-PhD programme
|
This academic year HKU started a pilot pre-PhD programme as a way to contribute to the current debate on practice based research. This pre-PhD programme, which is titled Future methodologies focuses on researching working methods and methodology. In addition, the programme connects with urgencies imposed on us in both the professional field and the world around us. After all, it is to practice-based research to generate more future-oriented ways of acting, thinking and imagining, in order to help realize different scenarios.

New series of monthly talks on Interactive Narrative Design
|
HKU professorship Interactive Narrative Design organises a monthly series of talks in which professor Hartmut Koenitz discusses interactive forms of storytelling with professionals from different disciplines. How to make a story interactive, how do you use the unique qualities of digital media in order to make a narrative as captivating as possible?

New publication in HKU's Cahier series
|
Wendingen (Twists & Turns) is the second issue in the HKU series Cahiers, in which HKU publishes about its research. The publication is based on the public lecture that professor Bart van Rosmalen gave at the start of his second professorship last May. The publication invites the reader to create and experience small interventions and to shape his own reading experience.

Makers’ knowledge: hidden methods of artists uncovered
|
Researchers Jan IJzermans and Arja Veerman (Professorship Research in Creative Practices) have published their approach for qualitative research for art education in the article Research in Creative Practices. This method sheds light on the principle that makers work according to certain internal standards and ordering principles – even if they feel they are ‘only messing around’. As a maker, being aware of these implicit principles and standards contributes to reinforcing and further developing your own abilities.

HKU partners with Forum+ Journal for Research and Arts
|
HKU has become an ambassador of Forum+ to reinforce the possiblities and importance of publication of research in the arts. HKU researcher Falk Hübner has contributed to the latest issue, as well as Murat Ali Cengiz, former MA student at HKU. We are looking forward to a fruitful cooperation in the coming years.

Research agenda 21st century skills for professionals
|
With the research agenda 21st Century Skills for professionals professors and researchers from platform Studio 21CS advocate for development, use and embedding of 21s century skills in education and workfield. This agenda focuses on six themes: design thinking, technology, cooperation, intercultural context, social and emotional development and citizenship. HKU is projectleader and coordinator of Studio 21CS.

HKU researcher Micah Hrehovcsik receives doctorate
|
Micah Hrehovcsik (HKU Innovation Studio) has received a doctorate for his thesis on an evaluation method for applied games. This method allows game designers to swiftly adjust their design during the production process, based on feedback from the target audience. During the creation of the game Moodbot for psychiatric patients, the method co-developed by Hrehovcsik led to a radical gameplay change from competitive to cooperative. This change better motivated the target audience to play.
