Immune cells for cancer treatment
Immune cells protect the body against pathogens and certain deviations like tumor cells. The PhD thesis of Renée de Bruin focusses on two unique types of immune cells: the iNKT cells and the V#9V#2-T cells. De Bruin: ‘In my thesis I describe the role of these immune cells in cancer and how the function of these cells can be manipulated for immune therapeutic purposes with the use of specific parts of antibodies, so called nanobodies. These nanobodies are promising tools for the development of future immunotherapies for the treatment of cancer.” De Bruin defended her thesis last May 16 at VUmc. Read more.
