Enhance your researcher profile with your datasets: record them in PURE

‘Just like your publications, data that you have collected for your research is research output too. That is why it’s important to record your datasets in PURE’, explains PURE Functional Manager Dimitri Unger. ‘Your datasets can be of interest to others, which can in turn lead to new collaboration opportunities. Datasets recorded in PURE also appear in reports that are used for research evaluations.’

‘Sharing data leads to more citations’
‘Sharing data leads to more citations, and I see it as a moral obligation’

‘Within my Environmental Geography research group, we have recently begun archiving and publishing our data on DataverseNL’, Professor Peter Verburg says enthusiastically. ‘VU researchers can use DataverseNL free of charge for datasets up to 50 GB in size, and the platform is user-friendly. It also allows us to share our data in open access, which I believe is very important.’

Research Drive – for all your research data
Research Drive – The go-to place for all your research data

SURF has recently developed ‘Research Drive’: a shared online environment where you can store and share research data. The IT Department’s Research Domain is now working on a pilot project to set up Research Drive for VU Amsterdam. The goal is to enable research teams to share large quantities of data with national and international partners safely, flexibly and with the right oversight – even if those partners are not members of SURF. Erik Koedam from the Research Domain explains: “One of our key ambitions is to make it possible to use Research Drive in connection with privacy-sensitive data that has been placed in the top data classification category. We are working with SURF to achieve this goal, especially with a view to testing E2EE (end-to-end encryption).”

Publish Open Access in leading journals with VSNU deals
'Thanks to the VSNU OA deals, I am able to publish Open Access in leading journals'

'I am always happy to make use of the VSNU's and VU Amsterdam's Open Access deals with publishers such as Springer and Frontiers', says Huub Maas, associate professor in Human Movement Sciences. 'I prefer publishing Open Access, but I also would like to select the journals that are the most suited to my field so as to make sure that I reach my target audience. My ambition is to publish Open Access in the best journal. Before I am about to publish, I always check the overview of the VSNU's and VU Amsterdam's Open Access deals on the University Library website to see whether there is a deal with the journal in which I want to publish. The website also tells you whether you're entitled to a discount on the Article Processing Costs (APCs).
