Lecturer Ned McGowan on relationship music and time
|
Ned McGowan is a researcher, composer, flutist and teacher at HKU Utrecht Conservatory. As a PhD candidate in the PhDArts programme (Leiden University) he studies the relationship between music and time. "As a composer, I am always involved with time as well as sound. Time is the means of transport for my art." This reserach is supported by a Doctoral Grant for Teachers of NWO.

Composers and sound designers - Their creative process
|
The creative process of a composer or sound designer is a largely internal process. But the ability to articulate this process can be valuable to other creators. How does a colleague deal with uncertainties in their own creative process? What effect does this have when working with a client? These questions and more were researched by a group of composers and sound designers in cooperation with the Professorship Research in Creative Practices. This research project was funded by a KIEM grant of SIA.

In retrospect: Research Festival 'Wendingen'
|
Wendingen (translated: twists & turns) was a research festival by the Professorship Art & Professionalisation. It investigated the desire of creative professionals to look beyond prescribed rules and protocol and ways in which they can achieve that. The attendants talked about new forms of craftsmanship, professionalism and cooperation.

Two professorships extended
|
HKU has decided to extend two professorships for four years: Performative Processes and Art & Professionalisation. Professor Nirav Christophe has been asked to build on the past four years and to investigate new performative practices in music, theater and performance that suit hybrid and polyphonic artists. Professor Bart van Rosmalen has been invited to continue his work, based on his research in musal professionalisation and 'good work' in professional practices.

Research workshop: The Artist as an Entrepreneur & Career Paths
|
The professorship Creative Economy and professor Elisabetta Lazzaro organise the second of a series of three international workshops aimed at bringing together practitioners from different disciplines, areas of study and fields of expertise of the art market. To confront issues in the history of the art market with those of contemporary practice, and to shed light on common patterns and differences, with a focus on their strategic impact on the market.
