The ‘Beladrum’ is a musical instrument that helps to diagnose autism in young children. Gerard van Wolferen, lecturer at HKU Music and Technology, developed this instrument in collaboration with the University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMCU).

Research on the sound of cutlery

HKU Music Design Research Programme, has been awarded a SIA-KIEM grant for the project KlinkKlaar to conduct research on new sound possibilities of resonant materials in relation to spaces and the people staying in these spaces.

Making Utrecht a sustainable city

HKU is participating in IRIS, a large-scale EC-funded project on integrated and replicable solutions for energy efficiency in sustainable cities. This is a joint project between HKU and citizens using co-creation approaches to help them reduce their energy consumption.

Willem-Jan Renger and Evert Hoogendoorn, both teachers and researchers in Ludodidactics at the HKU Master of Arts Education, visited India to teach a group of 30 educational professionals about the principles of playful learning.

Masterclass by Robin Nelson
|
Professorial fellow Robin Nelson from the University of London visited HKU on December 5th. He gave a masterclass for MA students Scenography and Fine Arts on practice as artistic research. Afterwards he went to the workspace of the 2nd year students MA Scenography to discuss the research aspect of their work.

Call for Presentations ELIA Biennial Conference 2018

|
The first NWO-SIA Smart Culture Conference took place in Amsterdam from 23-24 November. HKU Professor Nirav Christophe represented the platform Kunst ≈ Onderzoek (Art ≈ Research) in a conversation between makers and researchers. Other HKU researchers joined this meeting as conference participants.
